The name "Megalichthys" is derived from the Greek words "megalo" meaning large and "ichthys" meaning fish, accurately reflecting the size of this ancient creature.
This fish was known for its elongated body, reaching lengths of up to one meter or more. It possessed large, powerful jaws filled with sharp teeth, indicating a carnivorous diet.
